Insert the hook from right to left behind the front vertical bars of the next three stitches:
Yarn over and pull up a loop:
Yarn over and insert the hook in the same place again:

Leave the three new loops on the hook:
When working the return pass, close each loop individually:
In the next row, treat each loop as a separate stitch:
