I am going to let you in on a little secret. A secret I have been quietly carrying around for a few years and one I would not share in a room full of crocheters/knitters for the fear of being immediately ostracised.
I don’t crochet gifts.
Well, let’s correct this rather blunt statement a little: I very rarely crochet with the primary objective to give away the finished object. Most of the things I crochet, I crochet them for myself. My daughter and my husband have so far been the only two lucky recipients of my crocheted items, and only because I either wanted to make those items anyway and could not use them myself, or I was asked really, really nicely.
You may, quite understandably, wonder about the underlying reasons for this unusual condition, but I will save a more detailed analysis for another post. For now, let me just take the lid off this odd looking box and reveal that I am indeed a selfish crocheter.
That said, I do understand and appreciate the fact that most (all?) crocheters out there exhibit a much healthier attitude to crochet gift-making and love sharing their crocheted goodness with other people, particularly during traditional celebrations.
If you are a gift crocheter, you might be interested in a big annual event happening right now on Ravelry.
The Indie Design Gift-A-Long is a six-week-long CAL/KAL of holiday gifts made from patterns designed by independent crochet and knitting designers. From November 22, 2016 (8:00 pm US EST) to December 31, 2016 (midnight US EST) lots of fun games, contests, and eight CALs will help you get your gift-crocheting done in a nice friendly company of fellow crafters.
On top of that, from November 22, 2016 (8:00 pm US EST) to November 30th (11:59pm US EST) many indie designers will be offering 25% off select patterns to celebrate this event, so if you are considering making lots of gifts and need lots of patterns, this might be a good time to buy them!
My Gift to You
Fortunately, my crochet giftophobia does not extend to my crochet patterns, and I too have joined this event and put together a little bundle with those of my patterns which could be used to make gifts for your loved ones. Feel free to browse through these patterns on Ravelry and don’t forget to use giftalong2016 coupon code to purchase them at a special gift price.
and be the first one to know about Ms Weaver’s new publications and special offers!
