New Wardrobe Additions

I have been a very busy bee these past few weeks for a number of reasons, the biggest being the lastminutedotcom syndrome from which I have been suffering for most of my life. I do, however, have a couple of news I would love to share.

The first one is that I now have a new item in my wardrobe worth mentioning. My recent wardrobe reorganisation revealed a huge gaping hole: I did not have a single skirt! This has now been fixed and I am a proud owner of this lovely pleated number:

1-1

I am also happy to report that the two designs I have sneaked into my earlier post have now been photographed. As my fairy tech-editor is working her magic on my patterns and I am gearing towards publishing them (hopefully soon!), I thought I could, in the meantime, engage in showing off my brand new handmade clothing.

Here is my Summer 2016 garment #1, ta-da!

1-1-6

It is a lacy oversized top, featuring a bateau neckline, straight sleeves cutting just below the elbows, and a slightly cropped boxy silhouette (something I keep seeing around a lot lately – do you?).

The fabric is a crochet imitation of polka dots, which, once again, demonstrates the wonderful possibilities of this craft:

1-1-5

I am sure I am going to get a lot of wear out of this top. I have mixed feelings about pairing it with the skirt though as it seems this oversized top requires something more fitted at the bottom, while the floaty skirt needs some waist definition. So I will continue looking for perfect partners for both of them.

Will be showing piece # 2 in the next post. See you then!

  1. I *love* this top and it looks *fabulous* with the skirt! I would say this top is *very* versatile because it is not too long. It looks great dressed up with a floaty number like your beautiful skirt but it would also look awesome dressed down with skinny jeans. The colour also has a lot to do with it, white is universal. Oh and for the record, you do NOT look “mumsy” so I never want to read that line again! You look elegant and sophisticated. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Nadia! 🙂 I am thinking jeans too! They are more “my comfort zone”, but I will be challenging myself to more skirts!

      1. A nice form fitting skirt with opaque tights and booties is my go-to in the winter, so much more comfortable than jeans or pants. Plus, you can pair it with a loose or form fitting top, you should give it a try!

        1. I remember wearing a pencil skirt with tall boots (a million years ago!). Hmmm, it’s a thought! 🙂

  2. Wow!!! Well that was quick action you took regarding the skirt! 🙂 It’s lovely! I love the colour and the overall design which really suit both your complexion and your figure! 🙂 As for the top, I can’t wait to see more… and of course the other grey number you’ve hinted at. 🙂 Thank you fair sharing your experience. 🙂 You’ll be glad to know I went through my wardrobe yesterday and also had a bit of a clearout. 🙂

    1. Yay to your clearout!

I do like the colour a lot too, although I have to say not being used to wearing skirts, I feel a bit too “dressy”. Which will be OK for some occasions, I guess. I will try pairing it with other tops too.

      1. I know what you mean. I have this dress that I haven’t really worn until now. I also thought it looked too dressy. But a couple of weeks ago, I decided to wear it. And it’s been growing on me since. I think it’s a question of habit: once you get into it, you’ll really like what you see. 🙂 Plus, it all depends what you pair it with…

  3. Gorgeous top! not to mention the lovely skirt. And the model, well that goes without saying how gorgeous she is!!! Looking forward to seeing it published and the other items waiting in the wings too

  4. I’m a new follower of your work and just love what you are creating. Looking forward to seeing more! Cheers from Virginia in the USA!
